June is looking for members of the Stower family. Are these the Stowers of Cambridge Street, circa 1940-70 ?

My cousin Clarice Porter lived across the street then, and now lives in Nottingham. She may be able to give more information and can be reached at c.worrall1@ntlworld.com

Is there any relevant connection that you are aware of with the spelling of the surname as "Stowar"?

I too am looking for a Stower connection. I now live in Kent but I used to be Ratcliffe in Normanton, Derby. Please email me at rattersnap@aol.com with any info, however tenuous.

One of the Stowers of Cambridge Street in the 1930's was named Jennifer. My recollection is that her mother, Mrs. Stower, was previously a Disney whose parents lived on Dale Road. Does that ring any bells for Spondonians?

Re Stowers of Cambridge St, I do not know what became of Angela & other family members, but Beth Stower, I do not know if she is married or not, is still living somewhere locally, & is often out & about in the village, She was & I believe still is an active member of the Jehovas Witnesses at their church on Chapel St.

There is a Somerset link in the Stower family Tree. My grandfather Jack's father Walter Stower was born in Chaffcombe, Somerset in 1855 and he married Emma (Thirkettle also Thurkettle) in 1883. See England Census 1891 and 1901. Jack (John) had 6 sisters and 4 brothers. The father Walter Stower (because Jack's brother is named Walter) had 5 brothers and a sister, George, Emma, Robert, Job, Simeon, and Mark are listed. Walter Snr's father John Stower born about 1819 was born in Cudworth Somerset and his wife Sarah (surname unknown) born 1821 at Ilminster Somerset. See england Census 1851, 1861 and 1871.
