What does everyone think about the proposed Spondon incinerator? A planning application has been made to put it near to the Celanese plant, not far from Anglers Lane.
There are areas of Spondon that will be polluted in excess of 'significant' levels - I have an e-mail from pollution control at the council confirming this.
Do you want a hazardous waste burning incinerator near to where you live? Unlike the Sinfin proposal, the Spondon incinerator will in fact burn hazardous waste along with commercial waste.
There is a lot of information about this if anyone wants to see it.

There is a public meeting at the Moon Hotel, Station Road on Monday 9th November at 7pm. Attend to find out more about the plans for a hazardous waste burning incinerator planned for Spondon.

.i cannot understand how anyone can campaign to be green .there was an invite to all green parties .to come to see professor paul connett.worlds top toxicolagist .his vidios are on utube .even our mp bob laxton has spoken of the dangers from the planned incinerator .we had a meeting at the moon hotel our three councillors attended /people in spondon have started rumours .celanese are part of this incinerator .they are not connected in anyway .there is plans at celanese to have thier own gas power station ./so employment at celanese wont be affected ..these incinerators only employ about 35 people .but in recycling there are probally 150 jobs .so they will loose out .minute particles cannot be filtered /these get into blood stream causing cancers and child deaths /so who is correct is your health worth risking /join face book /spondon against cyclamax incinerator nr anglers lane .spondon deserve better peter ambler

About several decades out Peter as any old Spondon would tell you about Cell's tip off Derby R.D. now built on.

Hello Malchall. I saw this reference in the other thread. This illustrates the point that unless challenged, these things happen and we pay the price years later. Dioxins are being called the 'new asbestos' by scientists. These things are produced without any real consideration but they are harbouring real trouble for us in later years. Unfortunately, too many people have their heads in the sand.

Malc, I never thought you were sharp with me, or having a go. Not at all. Perhaps I missed something. Or, perhaps I am getting thick skinned in my old age!

Now that I have done some research into these incinerators I shall just try and explain how they work to clarify the reason why I am so much against them, basically they burn rubbish in using gas; in the same way as a crematorium, and the heat is then used to make steam which in turn generates electricity like a conventional power station, but unlike a crematorium that only fires up about two or three times a day, these incinerators must run 24-7 to produce electricity. A domestic waste incinerator can quickly and easily be converted to burn Hazardous or other waste. All over the country people are objecting to these incinerators so the companies who build them usually work on a 15 to 1 shot which means that if they try for 15 sites and 14 say no and one site says yes then they are on target. In order to keep these incinerators working at maximum efficacy they; need to burn lot of rubbish, to keep the power station working, so they may, need to bring more rubbish in from other parts of the country.

Quite right Melidenlad. In fact, in many placed around the UK it is being found that in order to make these incinerators viable, we would actually have to burn more waste than we are landfilling at the moment! How crazy is that?!?! It would actively discourage recycling because lots of material is needed (especially plastic) to get the calorific values and efficiencies needed. Cyclamax are appealing the decision to refuse planning permission so we have started a new campaign. Visit our developing website at www.stopthespondonincinerator.co.uk. Any volunteers to help will be most welcome.

You will all be pleased to hear that the Appeal for the Sinfin Incinerator has been turned down By judge McKenzie, and it will not now be built. The Appeal for the Spondon Incinerator is due to be heard sometime in March 2011. Please remember that anything that go's up into the atmosphere has to come back down again, especially when there is FOG or SMOG.

Hi All, Cyclamax have withdrawn from the enquiry so all of the campaigners have had an early Christmas present! We can put all of the appeal paperwork to one side and enjoy ourselves now! This is great news for Spondon - well done to all those involved and all those who voiced their opinions. We had planned a coffee morning at the village hall on the 21st December 11am-2pm in aid of the appeal fund but this will now be a Christmas themed event with childrens crafts, Usborne book stall etc with all profits going to a local cause. Any volunteers welcome!!! Hope to see you on the 21st for a celebration!
