You may have read in the press lately that at least one prospective political party says that if they are elected at the coming General Election is going to stop Winter Fuel payments for people over 60. I don't believe that us older people should have to pay for mistakes made by £500,000 a year bankers. If you are over 60 but under 65 now and still working you'll need to apply for your winter fuel payment by Telephoning 08459 151515 and please have your National Insurance number handy when you call. Winter Fuel payment is £250 a year from 60-79 & £400 a year for people 80 and over, but you must clam before September. Also you can have a bus pass it is known locally as a Gold Card, you'll need to go down to the Council House in Derby and take with you 2 passport size photographs, proof of your age (over 60) and proof of residency (within the city of Derby) for further information please contact the Citizens Advice Bureau in Derby.

Thanks for that Malc. I agree with you all the way, but the problem today is trying to hang on to the concessions we already have, If we had more it would be very nice. The reason I put it on this web was an old school mate who lives in Spondon who was unaware the he could clam winter fuel payment the gold card & free prescriptions if he was over 60 & still working. Like many other older people under 65 he is only now able to do a minimum waged job and to make it worse he now has his hours cut. The Gold Card is handy because it encourages people to use public transport instead of the car. and it also entitles older people to half price Rail travel between Spondon, Matlock & as far as Chesterfield. I dint want to talk politics on this website, but These MPs. are doing alright with there £60,000 a year plus expenses, and there long holidays, and they don't even have to bother turning up at the House of Commons if they don't feel like it. Nice work if you can get it.
