Does anybody remember the gents barber Joe Curley? He served in the second world war and afterwards was a guard at the trials of Nazi war criminals. He married a lady whose maiden name was Abbott. They had one daughter for whom he had great academic ambitions but I dont think she was particularly academic. Curley himself was ahighly intelligent man and wrote excellently. He would have made a good lawyer but never had that chance. Gareth

I remember Joe Curly. The Barber shop started out on Church Street ... between Chollerton's and the Church. He had an assistant in later years ... I think the name was Maurice ?Ames?. The shop later moved into the village proper nesr the twitchell going down to the Rec. Last time I was in Spondon I believe Maurice was still in the. shop.

I was very interested to read the info on Joe Curley. I am a family historian and I am interested in the Abbott family. Henry S Abbott, Joe Curley's father-in-law, was the brother of my grandfather Leonard Abbott so Eunice Curley nee Abbott was my aunt. I have been trying to get in touch with the Curley family. Pam Stevens of the Spondon Historical Society has been helping me. I'm extremely keen to find the daughter Lorna Curley, she married Graham Harper. There may also be two other children Miles Curley and Fiona Curley who married Andrew Sheppard. Is anyone able to help me.
