From the Derby Telegraph - June 08: A new flight path over rural parts of Derbyshire is being proposed by East Midlands Airport in a bid to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on residents. Although daily flight paths depend on wind direction, 27 per cent of departures from the airport head north-west over Mickleover and Littleover and 10 per cent head north-east over Spondon and Borrowash. The rest fly south over Leicestershire. The north-west path will be unaffected by the changes. The 10 per cent of aircrafts heading north-east take the Trent One flight path over Kegworth, Long Eaton, Spondon, Borrowash, Oakwood, Allestree, Duffield and Belper towards Ashbourne. EMA wants to split this flight path into two - one over Nottinghamshire called Pole, which will cater for six per cent of aircrafts, and another called Trent Two, which will send four per cent over Kegworth, Long Eaton, Sandiacre, Dale Abbey and Stanley, towards Ashbourne. It HAS been noticable over the past couple of years just how much lower planes seems to be flying over Spondon these days - so low in some cases that it's easy to make out the airline's paintwork on the plane.
Personally though, I can't say I've ever been disturbed by the noise from them. It's certainly never been loud enough to wake us up in the night or anything and my 2 year-old son loves seeing the planes flying over!
No doubt though the residents of Sandiacre, Dale Abbey and Stanley who are likely to inherit the flight path won't share my son's enthusiasm for it though!
